King’s Cross Nativity (The Nativity Factor – 3rd Place)

UPDATE 14 DECEMBER 2011: This entry is tied for third place. King’s Cross Nativity imagines that the nativity story has taken place in our very own local neighbourhood, King’s Cross, Islington. So the wise men are found on Chapel Market, the angels in Islington’s Angel, the shepherds on the Caledonian road and Mary and Joseph seeking shelter at the city farm and a local church offering food and bedding to the homeless. We approached a wide range of local people to get their reactions to events much as if it was a news report and they were the key witnesses. The witnesses are made up of market stall holders, a butcher, the local farmer as well as our friends and neighbours in the area. It was wonderful to watch the traditional story come alive in this contemporary, urban setting. The participants thoroughly enjoyed entering into the spirit of the story in this innovative way. We love our local area and hope the viewers enjoy seeing a different side of the story and a different side to King’s Cross as they watch it.
